Workshop on ‘Fake News and Fact Checking’ conducted for Media Students
Pnn/Faridabad: 11 October – The Department of Communication and Media Technology of J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad hosted a workshop on ‘Fake News and Fact Checking’ to support aspiring journalists and media educators across India in their fight against Misinformation and disinformation
The workshop was conducted by the Trainer of Google News Initiative’s India Training Network, Dr Archana Kumari. The workshop began with a welcome note by the Chairperson of the department, Dr Pawan Singh. Also, the guest was felicitated with the saplings.
Dr. Archana Kumari, the keynote speaker of the workshop initially introduced the students to the concept of Fake News and Misinformation with various examples. She distributed the master class in two levels wherein the first level had the basic tools and information required to understand how an individual should identify a piece of fake news. Following this, in the second level, she introduced the students to the international tools of fact-checking of different countries with advanced techniques to verify the received information.
The master class was an interactive session as students and the experts had Q&As in between to clear all their doubts. The event was coordinated by the assistant professor of the department Dr. Sonia Hooda. on this occasion, the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar appreciates the effort of the department to organize such a workshop on the relevant topic of today’s time and congratulates the students.
